Karate Advanced Classes:

Class instructors

Shihan George Kolovos
Sensei Peter Him

These classes are designed for higher ranks to continue their development in Kyokushin Karate. As such, the techniques, stances and training conduced are of a much higher and demanding standard. For this reason, beginners should only enter these classes once they feel comfortable and will not be overwhelmed. The progression into this class is generally given by feedback from instructors. As karate is a very progressive style, these classes range from students who have been training 6 months – 10 years as there is always something to be learnt.

The teachings of these classes all stem from the basics taught at a lower rank. They form the foundation of every technique and teach students correct movements which are necessary for advanced skills. As such, basics are very briefly run through in each class before moving on. As the classes vary in rank (from 5th kyu and below), different techniques are taught according to skill level where students are training at a level appropriate for themselves. This places higher ranks in a position where they are always performing more advanced techniques and stances and are challenged accordingly. As such, the demand for knowledge, fitness and endurance is increased with each rank. Kyokushin is designed to bring each student to these new levels through its grading system.

The classes tend be structured based on Fight Clubs yearly calendar. When a grading is approaching there is a much greater emphasis on technique, form and Kata, all of which is scrutinized to bring each student to the best they can possibly be. When tournaments are approaching the classes vary accordingly. A much greater emphasis is placed on fitness and the application of technique in Kumite. Although not every student will be competing, everyone undergoes the same training and is challenged equally as hard physically and mentally in class. It is this style of training that produces the strong willed, ‘never give up attitude’ attitude that individuals who study Kyokushin are renowned for. This is one of the many reasons why Kyokushin fighters who branch off become extremely successful in other martial arts.

Regardless of the upcoming events on the calendar, classes are always conducted following the traditional teachings at the root of Kyokushin Karate. This method of teaching from Shihan George Kolovos has seen the production of world-class fighters and countless individuals who are thankful for the input his teaching has had on their life.
