FAQ'S....

Why do I have to pay $20 for a trial class when other places offer free trials?

In the 30 years we have been operating we have found that by offering a free trial the classes each night are filled with people who are just looking to fill in an hour or so after work or who are waiting for a friend who is training .This means that they have no real interest in taking up a martial arts and that comes at a cost to others in the class and the instructors. Our instructors are all highly qualified and they will spend time with you in your trial class making sure you have every opportunity to assess if the classes are for you. The $20 trial fee is refunded back to you if you decide to join up, so in effect it has cost you nothing.

Why do I need to call and book in for a trial class?

We restrict the number of people attending for a trial class for each and every session - so if you don't call up and book in there is every chance that the class has already been closed for any further trials for that session.

Do I need to call and book in every time I want to come for a class?

Definitely not - as a member you can come in at anytime within your membership hours and take any class.

What do I need to wear for a trial class?

You just need to bring some loose comfortable clothing, shoes are not worn in any of the classes except for Boxing, where they are optional and generally most people don't wear them in there either.

What else do I need to bring in for my trial class?

You will need to bring in a padlock so you can use one of our FREE lockers and a towel. If you forget these then don't worry you can hire a towel from us and we can lend you a padlock for the night as long as you have some ID you can leave as a deposit.

Do I need to have my own equipment like boxing gloves?

We have everything you need to come in and do you class. Of course if you have your own equipment then you are welcome to bring it in to use but you don’t need it – we have plenty of equipment for you to use.

Do I need to have a certain level of fitness before I can do a trial class?

Absolutely not – lots of people think they have to be fit to take up a martial art but of course that’s not true. One of the fantastic side effects of training in martial arts is that we get you fit very, very quick. The majority of our members train for exactly that reason – they have discovered that martial arts is the best way to get fit and of course the added benefit of learning a martial art at the same time.

Do I have to wait until a certain time to start, like a new term or something?

No you can start at any time – we have new members starting all the time and people coming in for a trial in any or all our appropriate classes. You will find that there are people of all levels training in the class with you. Some may have been training for a couple of years and others may have only started last week. Our instructors are all very experienced at conducting the classes to ensure that everyone gets the most from their class, no matter how long they have or haven’t been training. You will see the difference it makes when you realise the person you’re looking at in class only started 1 month ago – and in no time at all that will be you.

Do I have to bring in a partner to train with?

Once again the simple answer is no – your instructor will partner you up in class with someone they feel is of similar fitness/experience. And of course they may swap you around with other people once the class gets started to ensure you are equally matched and feeling comfortable.

What do you do in a trial class?

Exactly the same as everyone else in the class. What better way to try something then to take part in it. If it’s Muaythai/Kickboxing or Boxing class your trying then you can expect  all of these classes to start with skipping as a warm up – the music is pumped up high and don’t worry if you think you can’t skip that’s how we all started... you’ll be skipping with the best in no time at all.

With our more traditional classes such as Karate, MMA or BJJ – they all start with a series of warm up exercises to ensure that everyone is warmed up and ready to train.

Are there many females in the classes or is it mainly males?

Martial arts has become extremely popular with females. They are recognising the benefits of using martial arts to get fit and tone up and of course at the same time learn some invaluable self defence techniques. Currently approximately 65% of our members are female.
