Summer Camps

MMA understands the importance of developing unity and camaraderie amongst its students. MMA holds a number of training and social events each year, one of which is our Summer Camp in Mornington. Shihan George organizes many talented instructors and fighters to join us, these include Gary O'Neil, Shihan John Taylor, Shihan Daigo Oiishi, Shihan Tabata, Shihan Shichinohe, Shihan Hasegawa, Shihan Jim Phillips, and resident instructor, Sensei Judd Reid. For Muay Thai we have the experienced Kru Im and Rhino training us.

Program

The weekend camp provides an intense level of training that lifts students' stamina, technique and knowledge of their style. We arrive at the camp Friday night for an early start on Saturday.

Saturday's training starts at 6:30am with a general fitness session to get you going for the day, finishing at 8:00am for breakfast.

The next session, starting at 10:00 and finishing at 12:00, focuses on the technique of your chosen discipline – Muay Thai, Karate or Arnis.

After lunch training starts again at 3:00. This session takes place on the beach, raising the bar for your level of fitness. During this session we also have light sparring training that finishes the day at 5:30pm

Saturday evening is a time we come together for our Sayonara (Farewell) Party. This fantastic night gets all the students involved in our infamous talent show, with laughs all round.

Sunday starts again at 6:30am with fitness training in your style.

After breakfast we hold our last training session as a united group. From 10:00 to 12:30 we match students up against those of an opposite style. The light sparring reveals to the students, different advantages of their partners style. An appreciation of the disciplines we offer and genuine bond between students are the primary benefits the final hours of the camp offer.

A cheerful bbq lunch wraps up what is always an unforgettable camp.

Brown and Black Belts/Singlets

For students of brown or black level the camp includes night classes on Friday and Saturday. These session, on top of the regular program make for a rigorous weekend, testing the stamina of the advanced students. The weekend also includes a judge and referee seminar to enhance the students understanding of the sport. This course qualifies them to judge in MMA events and apply for registration with the Victorian Martial Arts and Boxing boards.

The idea of the camp is to bring all the students together for intense training, at a level far above the weekly classes. Getting away from the city and the stresses of the working week allows students to focus entirely on their chosen discipline. By providing a vast array of instructors, both young and old, the students have an opportunity to learn from their extensive combined knowledge. By spending time together outside the usual training, students make close friendships and a team spirit is developed. The unforgettable experiences and great time had by all, makes these camps a much anticipated event. Make sure your ready for the 2007 camp!!!
