Muay Thai
Muay Thai is the traditional combat sport of Thailand , also known as the Art of the Eight Limbs. Muay Thai is an especially versatile, straightforward martial art where the hands, shins, elbows and knees are all used extensively. Almost all techniques in Muay Thai use the entire body movement, rotating the hip with each kick, punch, and block. The rotation of the hips and intensive focus on core muscles is very distinctive and is what sets Muay Thai apart from other styles of martial arts. MMA is proud to be one of the first schools to introduce the sport in Victoria . Head Instructor Shihan George Kolovos has been traveling to Thailand to train and develop his traditional style for over 10 years, combining this with 30 years of karate teaching experience makes him one of the leading instructors in Australia . George was awarded Instructor of the Year by the Blitz Hall of Fame 2002. The Ministry of Thailand Education Department has recognised George's efforts to spread Muay Thai in Australia and presented him with an affiliation certificate for his knowledge of Thai boxing. |

Train to keep fit.
MMA offers the best way of getting fit through this exciting, high cardio, Muay Thai training. Attending classes regularly will have you fitter than ever and toned-up in no time. On top of this you will also find your reflexes and co-ordination developing to a higher level. The classes are very casual, not as strict as traditional martial arts, and have a fun, friendly atmosphere. However our instructors are there to motivate and encourage you to achieve your best results. We offer comprehensive training including working with Thai pads, focus mitts and punching bags. Our classes are strictly non contact. Specific sparring classes, with light to medium contact, are provided for those wishing to compete in Muay Thai. These prospective fighters are trained separately in preparation for events. |

Novice Fight Night
These are Interclub sparring events where all our affiliated gyms have a chance to come together as fighters and spectators. Those who participate, gain fighting experience in a controlled environment. Fighters are matched up with maximum 3kg weight difference. Everyone is provided with complete padded protection including, head guards, chest guards, shin pads, 16oz gloves and fighters need to bring their own mouth and groin guards. By keeping the sparring to 80% you are able to learn a lot during the 3 x 1½min rounds. The Novice Fight Night is held 4 times a year with up to 20 fights, giving everyone the opportunity to take part with a minimum chance of getting hurt. Participants have a great time and consider this a major achievement, the culmination of lots of hard training. |

Brute Force
Taking competition to another level, George introduced the Brute Force Challenge Series in 2004 to Melbourne . This allowed him to bring first class Muaythai fighters from right around the country as well as from overseas to Melbourne, giving Melbournians the opportunity to see world class Muaythai fighting right on their own doorstep. Currently these events are held 3 times a year and there is no doubt that as their popularity increases they will become a main feature of the Victorian sporting events calendar.
