For nearly a decade, Yogarajah Velu has been more than just a member of Melbourne Fight Club—he's been part of our family. For the past 13 years, Yogarajah and his wife, Shanthi, have been living in Australia, but their journey has been anything but easy. As refugees, they have been caught in a life of uncertainty, stuck on a Bridging Visa E, with no clear path to permanent residency.
Living in limbo, constantly unsure of what the future holds, is a burden no one should have to bear. The Australian government continues to leave their status unresolved, even suggesting that they may not be eligible for permanent residency. This lack of a definite answer has only added to the stress and instability of their lives.
Yogarajah and Shanthi are now calling on our community for support. They will be holding a protest, "Free the Refugees," on Friday, August 23rd, at 5:30 PM at 808 Bourke Street, Docklands. We encourage everyone who can to stand with them in solidarity. Your presence can make a difference in the fight for justice and human dignity.
Let’s come together as a community to support Yogarajah and Shanthi in their time of need. Your kindness and support will be deeply appreciated.
